Spring/Summer 2022 Trend Report

Pussy willow socks with a purple background perfect for spring.

It has been a long winter, but the end is finally here! As we emerge from the cocoons of our winter clothes and step into the spring sunshine, we can't help but notice several of the latest 2022 fashion trends replicated on our top-selling socks this season. Here we gather spring's biggest sock trends and show you how to wear socks in 2022!

A woman pictured from the waist down exemplifies the twee fashion trend with pastel rainbow stripe knee socks and a fun fish print dress.

Twee All You Can Be

One of the biggest sock trends for spring 2022 is twee fashion in all its glory. Also known as Tumblr fashion, this quirky aesthetic looks back at Y2K and early 2000s-2010s fashion trends like peter pan collars, chunky glasses, fun vintage prints and colorful tights and socks. It's a sweet and sentimental style synonymous with indie rock and “adorkable” celebs like Zooey Deschanel.

Some of our most twee-friendly socks this season are Pussy Willow Crew Socks, Spill the Tea socks and the new line of tag socks from Blue Q with chunky cotton knits that remind us of cozy cardigans, but for our feet.

Athleisure Wear Isn't Going Away

Sportswear, athletic clothes and athletic socks took center stage at the start of the pandemic, and that trend has only gotten stronger in 2022. More people working from home means relaxing our dress codes and looking for clothes with a softer edge and a forgiving stretch.

In socks, this translated as a move toward cushioned soles that work as slippers around the house but still feel fantastic if you decide to wear them in shoes for a nature walk or neighborhood run. To make the most of this trend, check out cushioned wool socks from Darn Tough and our always popular selection of Gumball Poodle crew socks.

Passionate Purple

Color experts at Pantone chose Very Peri as their 2022 color of the year, describing it as a color that encompasses the “qualities of the blues, yet at the same time possessing a violet-red undertone.” Very Peri is a pretty periwinkle purple at the end of the blue spectrum, a color that is said to inspire creativity and joy with the mystery and majesty of purple combined with the imaginative, intelligent qualities of blue.

We are seeing plenty of popular purple and periwinkle socks here at Cute But Crazy Socks! Our Nasturtium Women's Socks in Periwinkle are a great match with Very Peri, but other tones of purple are also trending, including the ones on display on these Lavender Harvest Women's Socks. See them all by shopping our purple socks.

Dopamine Dressing Trend

When the pandemic has us feeling down and out of control, clothes are transformational — and the right outfit can be a major mood-booster. Dopamine is the "reward" hormone in the brain, and it is responsible for the little burst of happiness we feel when we do something beneficial for survival. Bright and joyful clothing can stimulate different parts of the brain, but it's not as simple as saying "wear green to feel more peaceful." Everyone will have different memories and associations with different colors, prints and textures. So this trend is about finding the things in your wardrobe that make you smile the most. Go ahead and pick pair of socks that reminds you of something that makes you happy, has a color that energizes you or a pattern that symbolizes resilience in your life. For us, these strawberry socks with bright red berries really do the trick!
