After a long Thanksgiving weekend full of shopping, food, socializing and more shopping, it’s natural to want to keep the good feelings flowing right into December. One of the best ways to harness the positivity and generosity of the holidays is to celebrate Giving Tuesday.
Our small business is marking the day by highlighting the organization central to our giving: NAMI (the National Alliance on Mental Illness). With the help of our customers, we were able to donate $1,809.63 to the organization this month. We give 1% of all product sales to NAMI year round, meaning a portion of every purchase you make at our sock store is helping do some really great stuff.
NAMI provides mental health services across the U.S., including free classes, support groups and resources that help people experiencing mental illness and their families find care and community. Their mission is to positively impact the lives of people with mental illness so they can lead healthy, fulfilling lives.
We partner with NAMI because we believe in their work, and we commend the organization for always looking for new ways to improve access to care for all who need it. One of NAMI’s recent initiatives was launching a texting line for mental health support, which joins their existing telephone HelpLine (1-800-950-NAMI) as an alternate communication option.
Many people are more comfortable texting than talking on the phone these days. By texting “HelpLine” to 62640 between 10 a.m.–10 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday–Friday, anyone can be connected to this free service for support, information and resource referrals.
There is also a new texting line geared toward teens and young adults, who overwhelmingly prefer the text message option. They can now text “Friend” to 62640 to be connected to other young people who know what they are going through and are trained to help.
If that sounds like something you want to support, we invite you to join us and make your own contribution to NAMI today.
