Cute But Crazy Socks (formerly ModSock) continues to grow in its tenth year and wants your help! We are actively seeking a motivated, outgoing individual with a passion for socks to fill the full-time position of Assistant Retail Manager in our fun and dynamic retail environment located in downtown Bellingham. We want you to grow with us, and this development position will prepare you to take over the full-time Retail Manager position by October 2022.

The Assistant Retail Manager position will work under the direction of our current owner/manager to oversee daily store and ecommerce functions. You will assist in hiring, training and managing personnel. You can expect to help plan and meet sales goals, control expenses, lead loss prevention efforts, manage inventory and uphold merchandising standards.

Wage and Benefits

  • $16 – $18 per hour ($29,120 – $32,760 annually) depending on experience, working 35 average hours per week

Essential Job Functions

  • Gain functional knowledge of daily store operations through mastery of core tasks: register sales, ecommerce fulfillment, customer service, inventory control, merchandising
  • Meet and exceed personal and store sales goals and standards of performance
  • Maintain a high standard of store appearance, merchandising and displays
  • Responsible for ordering and restocking consumable business supplies
  • Provide a fun, service-oriented experience to all customers
  • Assist in recruitment of high-caliber employees to suit store and ecommerce needs
  • Train and develop a successful sales team
  • Provide feedback, coaching and accountability to subordinate employees
  • Develop and revise employee handbooks and operating procedures for changing business needs
  • Contribute input to the manager for staff performance reviews
  • Contribute to and lead staff meetings
  • Supervise and help manage all aspects of daily store and ecommerce operations including loss prevention
  • Schedule weekly staffing and time off in compliance with company policy
  • Responsible for staffing; act as on-call supervisor to resolve staff absence due to illness/emergency
  • Resolve customer issues effectively
  • Champion the Cute But Crazy Socks culture; demonstrate it to the team, customers and community
  • Work store register, fulfillment and customer service roles; provide support to other retail staff as needed
  • Perform basic clerical and bookkeeping duties, filing
  • Oversee donations for community non-profit requests
  • Money handling, preparation of bank deposits
  • Participate in product selection, purchasing, receipt and inventory control according to budget and sales projections
  • Compile ideas for marketing initiatives; brainstorm growth opportunities across advertising, social, ecommerce and email media to implement with team members
  • Assist in oversight of the company's customer service and reputation management channels

Requirements

  • Demonstrated leadership ability with at least one year of experience in a customer-facing sales environment
  • 1-2 years retail sales experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills; confident and comfortable engaging customers to deliver a superior experience
  • Highly organized
  • Self-motivated to complete duties with minimal supervision to achieve high standards
  • Desire to succeed in a dynamic retail environment
  • Willingness to learn and take initiative
  • Able to speak English, write, hear, see in color, sit, stand, walk and climb/descend stairs
  • Able to lift 35 pounds without assistance, up to 70 pounds with assistance
  • Able to climb and reach overhead, bend at knees/waist
  • Able to work up to 40 hours per week, including weekends and occasional night shifts
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to comply with the company dress code, including wearing socks while on shift
  • Must be able to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 and be able to wear a mask while in the retail store
